Pennsylvania approves another Sports Betting License

Pennsylvania approves another Sports Betting LicensePennsylvania approves another Sports Betting License and now 7 of its 12 casinos offer sports betting.  This is in addition to its 2 off-track betting parlors which also offer sports betting. The latest casino to receive a sports betting license is Mohegan Sun Pocono in Plains Township, PA.

It’s been a years since sports betting became legal on a state-to-state basis. This is because on May 14, 2018, the Supreme Court struck down the PASPA act basis in the U.S. So far sports betting is legal in 11 states and Pennsylvania seems to be leading the pack.

In addition, Pennsylvania is one of the first state to legalize sports betting behind New Jersey, Delaware and Nevada. However, Pennsylvania had an advantage because in 2017, the state adopted a law leading to the Pennsylvania Gaming Board Control.

Mohegan Sun Pocono Sportsbook in Pennsylvania

According to this sports betting software provider, Pennsylvania is fast becoming a giant in the sports wagering industry. As an example, in March their total betting revenue came to $5.5 million which is twice the revenue of January. In addition, the state has already made over $4.5 million in sports betting revenue to date.

The latest example is the Mohegan Sun Pocono Casino becoming the seventh casino to obtain a sports betting license. Mohegan Sun Pocono has been waiting for their license since March and cost them $10 million.

According to Tony Carlucci, the Mohegan Sun Pocono President, the sportsbook will have its facilities near the casino entrance.  This is because they will use a former electronic store and turn it into a sportsbook.

Furthermore, the store will have a total of 1,130 square feet of space and be able to accommodate 75 people. They also plan on having several sports betting terminals, three teller booths and will feature a video wall.

At the moment, not date has been set for when the sportsbook will be ready to take bets. Furthermore, several people have shown interest in becoming a bookie in Pennsylvania and want obtaining a sports betting license.
