Lee’s Olympic Journey
After competing in five rounds over two days, Lee Meng-yuan equaled the Olympic record, advancing him to the men’s skeet final. Olympic skeet shooters use 25 clay pigeons as targets in each qualification round. The maximum score is 125 points, with the current record at 124.
Lee, a 29-year-old skeet prodigy in Taiwan, shot a perfect score on Saturday, hitting all 50 targets throughout the last two rounds of the tournament. On Friday, he missed only one clay target in the second of the first three rounds of the first day of qualifiers.
With this accomplishment, he joined American shooter Conner Prince and Italian shooter Tammaro Cassandro in topping the leaderboard, all three of whom had tied the record. Thanks to his victory, Lee will be the first man from Taiwan to compete in the men’s skeet at the Olympics later on Saturday.
A shoot-off was conducted to determine the top three sharpshooters, as all three were tied for first place in the qualifying. Only the top six shooters advance to the finals. Lee made history by competing in the men’s skeet event at the Olympics, making him the country’s first-ever shooter in the event.
