Jarren Duran of the Boston Red Sox won the MLB All-Star Game MVP award after hitting a two-run home run that clinched the victory for the American League. With two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, Duran sent Hunter Greene’s splitter to the stands. Also, it stopped the American League’s five unanswered runs. Also, it closed the scoring.
After outfielder J.D. Drew won the award in 2008, Duran became the only Red Sox player since Drew to win the award five times.
After making it, the 27-year-old Duran was named to his first All-Star Game.10 home runs, 41 RBI, 62 runs, and 22 stolen bases were part of his 284 (.820 OPS). According to baseball news reports, Duran’s 27 doubles topped the American League. In addition, he leads the league with ten triples. Many bettors placed baseball betting prop bets on Duran to lead the MLB in those categories at the end of the season.
MLB All-Star Game MVP
Duran’s career has taken off like a rocket in just over two years. Duran appeared in 91 games for the Show throughout the 2021 and 2022 seasons, as to the end of the 2022 season. In 335 at-bats, he managed just five home runs, 27 RBI, and 103 strikeouts. Duran also spent most of his career in Triple-A Worcester, hitting 219 with a .622 OPS.
Nevertheless, Duran had a remarkable turnaround in 2023, slashing .295 (.828 OPS) in 102 games while racking up 40 RBI and eight home runs. With 24 bags taken, Duran also became a nuisance on the basepaths. The All-Star Game MVP is now Duran. A moved Duran accepted the trophy after the game and promised to present it to his dad as a token of appreciation.
Octavio Duran is a crucial figure in Duran’s life and baseball career. During a July 7 game against the New York Yankees, the younger Duran talked with the ESPN broadcast crew about a chat with his father following the news of his selection to the squad.
Duran and the Red Sox
Along with Duran, the 53-42 Red Sox have been on a tear as of late; their 20-8 record now places them in third place in the American League for wild card games. Friday night’s game against the Dodgers will kick off the Boston Red Sox’s six-game road trip.
Nearing the trade deadline, the Boston Red Sox and the Toronto Blue Jays would be interesting partners to consider. Boston and Toronto are American League East rivals, but that is no reason they couldn’t agree. Even more formidable opponents than the New York Yankees, the Red Sox have traded with them often.
With the trade deadline quickly approaching, it would not be surprising to witness the two parties engage in at least some communication, especially given that Toronto is one of the apparent sellers. Until recently, it appeared like the Blue Jays would only deal with rental players. However, things may change as the trade deadline nears.
