Since then, the Louisiana Gaming Board has been working to make and approve the final gaming regulations. He said that he “understands the public wants this very badly, and we’re working overtime”. However, there is still work left to do as they have “to dot our I’s and cross our T’s”.

At the moment, Louisiana is home to a total of 20 legal riverboat casinos, racinos and land casinos. Out of those, 13 have put in their application for sports betting. Most of these locations are working overtime to be able to take sports wagers by November. For example, Harrah’s casino is turning the former Acme Oyster House restaurant into a temporary sportsbook.

LGCB officials expect the remaining 7 gambling operators to apply for a sports betting license by January 2022.

It is true that some casinos have been taking sports wagers since October. The Paragon Casino Resort in Marksville for example has been taking sports bets since October. However, they are doing so without the state regulation. Furthermore, the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana have also been operating sportsbooks.

The plan is to hallows sports betting in first in casinos that have their sports betting license. Afterwards, they will look at sports betting platform vendors will be undergoing a review. Eventually, those in compliance will be able to open an online sportsbook and mobile betting apps.
