New IOS Gambling Guideline affects on the Sports Betting Industry

New IOS Gambling Guideline affects on the Sports Betting Industry Recently, people in the sports betting software industry have been talking about the Apple App Store changing its gambling guidelines.  Earlier this month, the rumors came to an end.  This is because Apple made an update to its App Store Gambling Guidelines in terms of real-money gambling apps. Thus, we now discuss the New IOS Gambling Guideline affects on the Sports Betting industry.

The June 3rd update that is most pertinent to the gambling industry is Guideline 4.7 in the Apple App Store.  It basically states that:

“HTML5 games distributed in apps may not provide access to real money gaming, lotteries, or charitable donations”.  Furthermore, “This functionality is only appropriate for code that’s embedded in the binary and can be reviewed by Apple. This guideline is now enforced for new apps. Existing apps must follow this guideline by September 3, 2019.”

What this means for the Sports Betting Industry

For a layman, this means that gambling websites need an App that is native to the iPhone’s iOS platform. This is because most online casinos and gambling website use an App that is a “wrapped” version of their website. Thus, they are now not up to code with the IOS Gambling Guidelines.

Therefore, in order to keep their real-money gaming apps in the App Store, some serious changes are necessary.  Thus, these online sportsbooks and casinos need to change their gambling apps. At the moment, they have until the third of September to submit and get approval from the Apple Apps Store.

If they do not meet these guidelines, their gambling apps will no longer be available in the App Store. However, sports betting software and casino companies have three month to start building their new apps and be in compliance.

In most cases, for most sports betting software and sportsbook pay per head companies, this is a doable task.  However, the challenge is that the deadline is right before the NFL betting season.  Therefore, sportsbooks will have to shift priorities in order to have a successful transition.
